Is 2015 the year you find the job you’ve been dreaming of?  How to make our career dreams a reality is the focus as we welcome back employment coach, consultant, author, and founder & president of BusinessKeys International, David Stark.

We talk about what’s happening in the workforce, the difference between jobs and work, what steps should we be taking to find work, and more. Here’s where our conversation leads:

Our concept of “work” has undergone a huge shift. Work today isn’t about applying to one job after college or high school and then staying there forever. So with all this movement from role to role, how do we go about this process of being in transition from one job to the next? When we take a big picture look at our vocational life, we can see a body of work done over time and under varying circumstances.

What was the biblical concept of work? And does it perhaps differ from the way we perceive vocations today? David says that in biblical times “jobs” as we understand them today simply didn’t exist. It was more of a task-oriented society.

So what’s the relationship between our talents, passions, and work life? We need to be watching for ways that our talents might allow us to fit into a particular role.

We highlight the continuing importance of experience, education, and also relationships, to the work that we do and its success.

If you find yourself in a vocational scenario you’d really like to leave as quickly as possible, David says the best strategy is often to do as well as you possibly can where you are.

What can we learn about our vocational life from the way that Jesus and his disciples conducted their ministry? We note that the place where you earn your living may not necessarily be the location of your ministry.
