What does it mean to be simply open to God? Listen to Susie’s powerful conversation with author and pastor Greg Paul about connecting with God in prayer.

Greg shares a prayer to start the program – “Lord, open my eyes.”

“We forget sometimes that God is the one Who created everything around us. He is communicating to us all the time. If our eyes are opened to the law of God in the world around us we’re going to experience different things.”

What should we know about contemplative prayer? Greg assures us that this is not a mystical, un-biblical practice. This is a way of staying connected to God as we’re running errands, paying bills, and building relationships.

“We are not monks. This book is not written for monks. This is for people who are very much engaged in day to day life and in the midst of that day to day life want to stop and pay attention to God.” Greg expands on the very definition of contemplative. “It’s to pay deliberate attention.”

Greg explores a few things that hold us back from having a deep connection with God in the everyday things of life:

• Busyness
• Pride
• Selfishness

Greg’s book is .  He offers a final encouragement.

“What we really want in our lives is to be so open that God can direct us, mold us, shift us, tell us when we’ve got it right – as a way of living. To be people who are malleable in the hands of the Holy Spirit. It’s not easy to get there but I believe it can be simple. It’s a matter of paying attention to the things that I see and hear and feel and smell and taste and touch and think.”
