As Christians, we often say that we give God the glory when we are successful, but how often do we actually glorify God with our heart?

Dan Britton and Jimmy Page discuss the importance of glorifying God with our entire lives. Why do we need to think rightly about this? Dan says we too often rob God of His riches.

“When we think about glorifying God, at best, we give Him secondhand glory.”

When God does something great in our lives we like to take it and run with it for a while. Instead of giving it to God right away, we like to absorb and internalize the success.

“We give God the secondhand glory; after we’ve already taken the glory that is due to God, we claim it for ourselves.” – Dan

Jimmy and Dan partnered to write . One of the important lessons we can teach our sons is that our entire lives should be dedicated to glorifying God. Some Christians live their lives without ever really thinking about glorifying God and chances are their parents never stressed the importance of glorifying God in this life.

Dan says that all Christians should ask themselves if they are a “glory sponge or a glory mirror.”

“When the glory comes, do we soak it up and say there’s more glory for me and it makes me look better, or are we a mirror that reflects the glory back to God Himself?”

It is important for Christian parents to model the mirroring of God’s so that their kids will learn from them. Dan says we need to be mindful of how perceptive young people are.

“Our sons believe it, whether we say anything, they are watching, they see everything we do, they see every little gap, every nuance.”

Your child will notice if you are really a man or woman of God that seeks to glorify Him above all things. Dan offers a last, penetrating question.

“Do we pursue glory so we can advance ourselves, or do we pursue glory so that we can advance the kingdom of God?”
