What is God’s calling for women? Can a woman work in any season of life? The discussion around women and work is a touchy one, but Carolyn McCulley brings a balanced and biblical perspective to the table. She joins Jo to explore the design and desires of a woman’s heart and what it means to work and be successful.

In her book, The Measure of Success: Uncovering the Biblical Perspective on Women, Work, and the Home, Carolyn points out that we can approach this topic with humility and care. “Work and productivity is the fruitfulness, the life-bearing aspect, the faithful labor to advance the Kingdom. There are so many aspects of what productivity looks like, and we narrow it” to only apply to financial gains.

Carolyn points to the Genesis narrative to show God’s call for men and women. Though the Fall distorted the original plan, she points out that the original calling was for men and women to labor together to spread the gospel and multiply.

Listen as Jo and Carolyn tackle these and other aspects of this sensitive issue:

• Adam and Eve existing as co-laborers before the Fall

• ‘Mommy wars’ and how to engage with others while recognizing that different women have different callings

• What we can learn from Martin Luther and his wife Katharina von Bora about the model of Christian marriage

• God’s call to prioritize family and children, and how that has played out in Carolyn’s own company, CityGate Films

• Can women ‘have it all’?

• How to seek God rather than the approval of others

Carolyn says, “You can only take with you what you’ve given away.” Remember that a woman is called to give to others and walk closely with God. Study the model of a godly woman found in Proverbs 31 – she works hard, cares for her family, and is called ‘blessed’ by her children. We can in fact ‘have it all,’ but not all at once. In different seasons, work will look different, and we can have faith that God will lead us through His Word and His people to walk in godly productivity.
