What code do you live by? Author and former White House reporter Sophia Nelson joins the program to look at the codes and habits of a healthy life.

For Sophia, one of the codes she lives by is the call from Solomon to guard your heart.

“As a woman, your heart is really the center of where you live. We’ve gotten lost in the sense of who we are and what makes us tick! When that deepest need to be loved and cherished is not met we tend to gate our hearts instead of guard them. When you gate yourself off, you are blocking the blessings that might come your way.”

Here are a few other codes Susie and Sophia explore:

Know your value.

Make peace with your past.

“When we make peace with our past, that means we don’t let our past define us. When you are able to make peace with your past, with what is bigger than you, what you can’t change, that’s when your life really takes off.”

Teach people how to treat you.

“I’m in my forties and I’m just learning this. Too many of us in the body of Christ grow up in dysfunctional families and many of them were hidden under the smiles of Sunday dresses and suits and ties and nice shoes. When you grow up in dysfunction you actually begin to think that’s normal.” We can teach people by the way we carry ourselves that they have boundaries with us and will someday need to answer to God for how they treat us.

Live authentically.

“Authenticity always rests on accountability. The people you have around you have to be empowered to coach you, to check you, and correct you.”

Be accountable for your life.

Guard your heart.

Lift other women as you climb.

Age gracefully.
