Circumstances have the power to test our faith and define our lives. We hear two powerful testimonies from guests who have endured life-changing events. Jo Rathmanner talks with Kent Seevers, whose faith was shaken in a recent boating accident.

Our first half hour with Kent and his mom Lori Seevers includes:

We go back to the day of the day of the accident and he explains what happened. It was Memorial Day and also his parent’s anniversary. Off duty emergency room nurses were some of the first on the scene after the incident. Kent says that was just the beginning of the blessings he experienced that day. Kent paints the picture of his time in the hospital directly after it happened, and how he struggled initially to maintain his composure. Yet then came a calmness that surprised him.

The advances in medical technology allowed Kent’s doctors to do remarkable things. He reflects on how differently things may have been for him if those services hadn’t been immediately available.

“I believe that God has a plan for my life, but I don’t know what that is…. It was frustrating to me why I lost mobility in the prime of my life. It is very difficult to understand, but the support was overwhelming.”

His friends started a fundraiser for him, and the fellowship of believers around him made such an impact on his life.

Then in our show’s second half, Jo also welcomes Joni Eareckson Tada, who will discuss quadriplegia in marriage, and Ken – the husband who continues to stand by her side. We discover the true meaning of perseverance, trust and God’s faithfulness in the midst of the worst that life can throw our way.

Joni and Ken have quite a remarkable story behind their first meeting. We hear how Joni started praying for Ken before she even met him:

With the unique health challenges they faced together, they went into marriage with not a few questions as to how it would all work out. Yet 32 years later, they are still praising God for his faithfulness.

“The sustaining force—not only in our marriage, but in every marriage, is Jesus Christ” – Ken Tada

Joni explains how her health challenges became a profound blessing in their relationship and in their faith walk.

Our world is so full of chatter and noise. We need to take the time to listen to each other’s hearts. It’s a discipline that takes practice.
