“It’s not about bringing a child to your family. It’s about bringing your family to a child.”

Listen as Jami Kaeb joins us to look at how the Church can get involved and minister to orphans in the foster care system. Jami has six – soon to be seven – children, through natural birth and adoption. She shares her heart for those children who have been forgotten by the world.

“We had three kids at the time and we were hoping to adopt a baby from the United States. God took us on a two-year journey of heartbreak where that didn’t happen. In 2009 our eyes were opened to a whole new world of foster care.”

Jami and her husband Clint started partnering with local foster care agencies through organizing diaper drives and fixing up offices. They used social media as a platform to spread the word and get people involved.

“It started as a Facebook page with the goal of getting local needs met in my community. It has grown to this nationwide movement; we have 28 advocates in 14 different states across the nation. Our mission now is to resource and equip these advocates so they can go out and mobilize the body of Christ.”

How can we get involved in caring for the vulnerable in our communities?

• Look into your local foster care agency.

• Take classes to learn about foster care and the process.

• Partner with your church and connect with other foster families in the area.

• Pray.

• Pack a “Journey Bag” for a foster child, who often come into the system with a small garbage bag of belongings.

• Come alongside children and teens as a mentor figure and invest in their spiritual and character growth.
