This week on Cradle My heart, Kim welcomed Licensed Professional Counselor, Jessica Slovensky to the show, as well as Silent No More speaker Béatrice Fedor.

Many professionals argue on whether or not abortions actually have any impact on women psychologically and spiritually. The counseling profession via the American Psychological Association stated in their 2009 Executive Summary of the APA Task Force on Mental Health and Abortion that abortion has no negative impact on emotional and mental health, but rather that

“The best scientific evidence published indicates that among adult women who have an unplanned pregnancy the relative risk of mental health problems is no greater if they have a single elective first-trimester abortion than if they deliver that pregnancy.”

But case after case has shown that there are impacts on women after abortions, psychologically and spiritually. Fortunately, there are counselors such as Jessica Slovensky who are trained and passionate about helping women recover psychologically and spiritually after having an abortion.

Women who have abortions may struggle later with stress, having trouble with their menstrual cycle, missing the aborted children and wanting to replace them, having marital or relational problems, and having anxiety. Slovensky unpacked some of these, and gave practical advice on how women can start to heal and get the support and guidance they need.
