Balancing work, relationships…and play

Our work is boring, our play is exhausting, and our relationships can be confounding.

Is there meaning in any of this?

Author Mark Shaw says most of our lives can be split into those three areas: work, play, and love. Yet many times, people have a hard time finding fulfillment in any of those areas.

Shaw joined Dr. Bill Maier to talk about his aptly-named book, .

To find out what it means to find fulfillment and balance in life, Shaw says you first have to look at what it means for humans to flourish. He says “play” is an important part of it:

“This is primary play: when I start the day saying, ‘my whole life today is in the hands of an almighty, all-loving Father who’s at work all around me to make things new, so I don’t have to be afraid; I can delight in whomever I encounter and whatever I’m called out to do.’ Those three things: the wherever of a God who’s all around me, the whatever of my to-do list, and the whomever of the people I encounter. When I can do that without fear…that is what brings balance to life.”

Shaw broke down the Old Testament definition of wisdom, as well as explaining Solomon’s “Lady Wisdom” and “Lady Folly” from the book of Proverbs:
