When I think about the story that’s in my heart to share, as it relates to Micah 6:8, I would have to say, all my life, I can see that God has always shown me what is good, but as I reflect on the part: “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with God,” I’d have to say, in several important areas of life and in very specific and pivotal scenarios, that have had a significant impact me and others, I have failed miserably.

The book I’m writing is about how God used a gut-wrenching and devastating 9.5 hour deposition to help me understand the passage of Micah 6:8, in a way the church never has. You see, during the deposition, I didn’t know what to expect, not really, but I can guarantee you that I wasn’t focused on mercy or humility; especially, when I realized how much time, effort, resources and money went into investigating, documenting and cataloging the most devastating, painful and at times, shameful soundbites of my life.

Imagine how you might feel if a team of strangers did that to you, and not only that but they felt entitled and justified to do so. What would they find during their exploration into your life and how would you feel about it? Now, imagine not being given an opportunity to review the thousands of pages of documentation citing their “record” of your transgressions; the true, the false and the forgotten. How would you feel? And, if that scenario isn’t terrifying enough, now imagine sitting at the end of the awkwardly long table, opposite the blinding light and stare of the camera, when out of nowhere, your ultimate accuser approaches you from the side, with the posture of a predator hurling false accusations against you.

Now, answer this, if it were you in that scenario, would you be focused on acting justly? Would you feel like loving mercy or having a heart of humility? For most people, I’m guessing the answer would be no, no way! But I can tell you this now, the deposition was nothing but symbolic of a train wreck or an “endpoint” to a very horrible situation and set of circumstances that could have been managed or better yet, prevented if someone had been focused on the biblical principles noted above somewhere along the way.

Looking back on that very ugly experience, I learned that we must develop a finely tuned sense of consciousness in every moment of our lives to ensure we stay connected to the vine that gives us life. If we’re wreck-less or if we’re living one foot in and one foot out of His grace, we will get pulled into the ocean by the undercurrent we can’t see. And once we’re dragged out to sea, surrounded by that dangers that live within, it’s tough to get back to the safe shores that are so easily taken for granted.

Also, when we’re in those dangerous waters, life becomes about gaming situations to survive and then ultimately, regret, loneliness, shame and fear set in when we realize there’s no guarantee that we will make it back to safety. We have no rest or peace of mind when we’re separated from the Captain of our soul!

The book takes the reader through the story of what happened; the lead up to the deposition. I explore how easy it is for one to get lost or contribute to situations that spiral out of control. This is especially true for the uncalibrated heart. It’s easy in our secular world, to forget that the battle we face isn’t about flesh and blood, but rather it’s about the spirit realm. For example, I explain some of the spiritual consequences I endured, which include surviving a near death experience, a scenario that should have taken my life, the harassment by demons, the intercession of angels, a demon leaving my spirit and what it was like to receive a hug and a pardon from Jesus himself.

So, if you’re someone who has ever wondered first, if there is a devil and if there is a God, if Jesus is real, then this book is for you. If you’ve ever struggled with acting justly, loving mercy or walking humbly with God, this book is for you. If you’ve ever wondered about what it means to truly forgive and to be forgiven, then this book is for you. If you’ve ever wondered if you’ve gone too far, if it’s possible for God to forgive and restore your soul, then this book is for you. If you’ve ever wondered if it’s possible to get to a place where it can and does become easy to know God is real, to hear his voice and to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with Him, then this book is for you.
