“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23

More than just eating and sleeping right, 1 Thessalonians 5:23 is a blueprint for holistic health. Laura Harris Smith explains why it is essential,

“That is what I will sing to the day He calls me home: our spirit, mind, and body must be kept blameless for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Most of us do not realize how integrated our mind, body, and spirit are. Choices in one area of our lives effect the rest of our life as well.

“If you look at the Trinity, God is three parts, and so He is making you into His image, so you’ve got three parts that you cannot segregate.”

We can’t deal with one aspect of our health without examining every aspect including our spiritual health.

“You can’t say, oh, I’ve got this problem going on emotionally, so I’m just going to see a psychologist, but you’re not going to do anything, physically, nutritionally, and you’re not ever going to pray. You’re only treating one third of yourself. God is three parts, we are three parts, and we will never be whole if we do not treat all three.”

While it might seem insurmountable to our mind, body, and spirit all in working order, Laura says we can rest assured that God will help us achieve balance in every day life.
