Is there room for fear in the Christian life? Susie Larson shares her thoughts on what the Apostle Paul has to say about fear in his second letter to Timothy.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

“This passage has come alive to me over the last year and a half. What does it mean that God has not given us a spirit of fear? It means fear is a spirit and it’s from the enemy.”

It’s important to realize that one of the main ways Satan seeks to steal, kill, and destroy is by employing the use of fear in our lives. When we cooperate with fear, we are cooperating with Satan’s schemes.

We don’t have to be victims of fear because God has given us a different spirit that is stronger than fear.

“That fear is not from God, but what He has given us is a spirit of power, love, and sound mind.”

“God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear, something that puts us to cowering and covering our heads, playing not to lose, He’s given us a spirit of dynamite, explosive power.”

God has also given us a spirit of Love.

“That translates into that agape love, that self-sacrificing other-worldly kind of love that can only come from God. He’s put that spirit in us so that we can love others with a supernatural love, even those we disagree with.”

God has also equipped us with a sound mind.

“It’s really about keeping our wits about us. It’s about self-control, self-restraint, having a divine wisdom to see through the immediate situation.”

Today, ask God to help you learn to activate the spirit of power, love, and sound mind that He has already given to fight back against fear.
