If anyone had reason to suffer from fear and anxiety, it was Anna LeBaron. Born to polygamist Ervil LeBaron, husband to 13 different wives, Anna lived most of her formative years on the run.

“I grew up with a lot of fear and that has translated into experiencing a lot of anxiety even as a grown adult woman, even outside of the cult I was raised in.”

Anna says that verses like 2 Timothy 1:7 have been able to quell much of the fear and anxiety that characterized much of her life.

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

“As I’ve meditated on this verse, I’ve realized that when I’m experiencing anxiety I can repeat this verse and realize the truth that God never motivates his children with fear, it’s always with love. So anytime I’m experiencing anxiety I repeat this verse to myself and I recognize the truth that God gives us a spirit of power, a spirit of love, and a spirit of sound mind. All of those things are available to us as children of our heavenly Father.”

What does it mean to be a have sound mind?

“The word sound in that verse means mature and healthy. So any of the repercussions of growing up the way I did do not have to be a part of my current walk with Christ, because He has given me a healthy, sound, mature mind. Therefore, all the things that trigger that anxiety are under the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Anna realizes there isn’t anything she can do about her past, the only thing she can do is walk in newness of life from here on out.

“There’s not a lot I can do about the things that happened that trigger anxiety, but I can speak the truth over myself when that happens.”

Anna LeBaron, as one of more than fifty children of infamous, polygamist cult leader, Ervil LeBaron, endured abandonment, horrific living conditions, child labor, and sexual grooming. At age thirteen, she escaped the violent cult, gave her life to Christ, and sought healing. A gifted communicator and personal growth activist, she’s passionate about helping others walk in freedom.
