Audrey shares what life was like in the months leading up to her affair.
“I would describe our lives as extremely busy doing really good things, and because they were good things we were masked from the true condition of our hearts. We were living side by side relationship – we knew our functions and we were good at them, but there was an emptiness in my heart, where I was just exhausted. We were tired. Completely out of the blue a young guy starts coming to our church and starts giving me all this attention. Not only did he notice how hard I was working, but he also noticed that I was beautiful. And something in my heart just went there. That was when emotionally I got attached, I got addicted, and it was a short trip before that became a sexual affair.”
Bob shares his reaction when Audrey confessed what had happened to him.
“Immediately in my mind I began to create a rescue plan for my life. I was going to abandon her, the family, I was going to go back to my family – simply for this reason. To expose her for what she did to me. Here is the arrogance and the pride of my heart – I am the victim here.”
Bob called a pastor friend in his anger and hurt, and the healing process began. Audrey wrestled with shame and guilt, and Bob wrestled with fierce anger and pride. When it was discovered that Audrey was pregnant by this affair, the devastation escalated.
“I remember being in the fetal position in a corner of the room, just saying ‘I can’t live.’ When you can’t take back what you did, you feel helpless and out of control.” Audrey shares her hope and heart even in the fact of this news. “In our deepest pain, he meets us there. When God walks you through, there is not a more precious season in your life.”
