“Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.” Exodus 33:13 NKJV

In this prayer Moses thanks God and praises Him for what He has done in the past, and looks forward to what God will do in the future. According to Pastor Mike Shreve, we can seek to know God better by following the themes of thanksgiving and praise in our own prayer life.

“In essence, Moses is saying that he wants more. He is saying, if you have moved in my life in the past, then show me the direction you want me to go now so you can continue to move in my life by the manifestation of grace.”

Mike points out the importance of understanding that Moses wasn’t just asking for what God could give him, He was asking for God Himself.

“In other words, Moses is saying, ‘my ultimate goal is not to get something from you, I want to know you.’ I believe that’s what captured God’s heart.”

“Moses asked to see God’s glory, and God said He would show Moses His goodness. Because, God’s goodness is His glory.”

If we asked a human being to show us their glory, they would show us their achievements. For God, it’s different.

“God is a good God and He made all of His goodness pass before Moses. I believe that’s an approach we should have if we want to see God move in our lives in greater ways. Dare to say, ‘Lord, if I have found grace in your sight, show me the next step in my destiny, because I want to know you more.’”
