What happens when we become Christians? Should our life really look different then before? If so, how should it be different?

This week on Live the Promise, our guests identified four things that happen when you become a Christian.

Whether we like it or not, when we become Christians we invite the potential for suffering into our lives. Todd Smith from the band Selah says that God has called us to be people of the cross. This means being willing to bear our cross, suffer, and maybe even die for our faith. Jesus Christ himself was condemned to death and if we are willing to publically associate ourselves with His name we could encounter a similar experience.

When we become Christians we are also called to stop seeing people as rivals and instead fellow followers of Jesus Christ. Lisa Bevere, author of  , says says we have a tendency to view others as competition and we feel threatened by their success. What we must realize is that God has given each of us specific gifts and purposes that are unique to us.

As believers, we are not supposed to live for the spotlight. Pastor Jeff Manion, the author of  , says that when we live for the spotlight we can actually miss out on the everyday, repetitive actions of life that always lead up to the big, breakthrough moment.

Do you ever wish you could change your past? Pastor Craig Groeschel, the author of  , says that while we can’t change our past, we can let God rewrite our future to something more amazing then we could ever have planned for ourselves. God has already made plans for our lives and it’s our job to walk out the path that He has already prepared for us.
