When was the last time you were waiting on God but weren’t getting an answer? Marlo Schalesky says that waiting on God is a fact of life, but it can be a good thing.
“We often think of waiting as punishment and it’s not, it’s just a tool in the hand of God to help us become who we are always meant to be and who He has dreamed us to be and who He created us to be.”
We often mistakenly believe that if we are waiting it’s because we’re doing something wrong. Marlo says that this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
“We’re going on with all this guilt and really God is just saying, ‘no, I need this time to help you become who I want you to be, and to help you see me more clearly, and to reveal myself to you in the darkness and in this wait.’”
Knowing this has been invaluable for Marlo as she seeks to navigate a season of waiting in her life.
“Now when I come to a waiting time, I know God isn’t wagging a finger at me, He’s saying, ‘we need this time to do what needs to be done, in you know and in the people around you, and in my kingdom. Waiting is a part of the journey, it’s not an oops.’”
Marlo says we also fall into the trap of believing the breakthrough after the waiting season will fulfill us in a way it was never intended.
“It really hit me that arriving wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. We think if we can get there, it’s all going to be fine, but we are really foreigners and sojourners in this life, and there is no there in the life. When God brings us to a place, He doesn’t want that to be the answer to our prayers. He wants himself, and a deeper relationship with Him to be what fills us. The only thing that really fulfills us is that deeper relationship with Him and getting to see Him more clearly.”
