Is God calling you to take a step of faith?
Pastor Aaron Tredway shares how we can partner with God to cultivate our faith journey one step at a time.
“No matter who you are, no matter where you are in your faith journey, faith is something that needs to be cultivated. The thing I’m learning about faith is that the more I seek after Christ, the more I seek to abide and obey, the more He grows my faith.”
It’s a tremendous weight off our shoulders to realize that we aren’t responsible for growing our own faith – because we can’t. However, we must pursue Jesus Christ and seek to abide in Him.
How do you pursue Christ and practice being faithful? Aaron says it’s helpful to compare faith to a muscle.
“If you want a muscle to grow, you’ve got to work it out. Faith is just like that, you can’t just sit on your backside and think your faith is going to grow. You’ve got to be active and you’ve got to be pursuing, you’ve got to be actively pursuing the things of God.”
Another way we can help cultivate our faith muscles is by surrounding ourselves with people who are doing the same thing.
“I wouldn’t do half of the things the Lord has allowed me to do without these amazing, godly men and women He’s placed in my life.”
Aaron shares the story of his friend David who turned to follow Christ at the peak of his career as the Chief Storyteller for Microsoft.
“25 years later, God miraculously called David to leave everything there at the Microsoft headquarters in Seattle. He and his family moved down to Santiago, Chile where they still are to this day serving the Lord as church-planters. It’s just amazing how God works in people’s lives.”
What should faith look like for me?
“Faith doesn’t always have to be moving to a third-world country. Faith might be offering a cup of cold water to a stranger. Our lives are filled with every day realities. God doesn’t ask us to walk before we can crawl.”
