HK Derryberry has quite the list of hobbies. He’s an alpine skier, an accomplished equestrian and he pilots airplanes and boats.

He was also born blind with Cerebral Palsy, and a multitude of other physical challenges.

HK also happens to be one of just a handful of people on earth born with Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory. This remarkable young gentleman vividly remembers everything that has happened in his life since the age of three and a half!

He explains how he overcomes his visual impairment when he does something like Alpine skiing.

“I like skiing. I love riding horses at Paradise Ranch in Springfield, Tennessee. But I overcome my disability in skiing and driving a boat through verbal commands. On the slopes, the instructor will say, ‘here’s a left turn’ or ‘turn right.’

“On Mr. Bradford’s boat, he sits four or five feet away from me and gives me verbal commands. I have figured out on the steering wheel which way to keep it and which way is straight. It’s just a lot of fun.”

When many of us encounter tough times in life, we turn around and walk back the way we came or we give up. HK explains what has given him the ability to keep going when he might want to quit.

“I’ve just learned to determine my capabilities, and I’ve realized that the only disability in life is a negative attitude. So I’m always positive.”

HK Derryberry & Jim Bradford are the extraordinary duo at the heart of  , the inspiring true story of a young man born with incredible physical challenges but blessed with the gift of Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory.
