Radical Islam is on the rise and groups like ISIS, Boko Haram, and Al-Shabaab are flourishing. How have these terrorists organizations been so successful, and why are more and more people joining their cause?

History professor Joe Loconte of The King’s College explains why radical Islam is so successful and appealing.

“Success breeds, success, when you have this radical, genocidal movement tearing its way through the heart of the Middle East, and you don’t have an effective military counter force then that’s the recruiting ground.”

Why is ISIS appealing to sympathizers?

President Obama has formed a coalition of 50 nations to counter radical Islamic groups and for 18 months they have unsuccessfully attempted to stymie their advances.

The more successful ISIS is the more support they garner from the disenchanted youth of war-torn countries in the Middle East.

“This narrative of eternal reward and dying in a holy crusade is the most attractive thing in their lives. You have men who are 18, 19, 20 years old and they seem to have no prospects, the idea of joining this great cause which has a transcendent purpose, which will reward you in heaven ultimately is appealing.”

ISIS and other Islamic extremist groups are propagating a counterfeit form of purpose and direction for these young people who are lining up in droves to take the bait.

“We’ve got to realize that the religious roots of this and it’s foolish and mistaken to pretend that there isn’t deep transcendent religious appeal here.”

Islamic religion is deeply rooted in the culture of the Middle East. As Christians, we should pray for those suffering under the yoke of radical Islamic oppression that they can receive Jesus Christ, the only True Reward.
