Highlight: What makes Christianity unique?

Many people believe that Christianity is just one of the various doorways to a relationship with God. However, Scripture clearly teaches that Jesus Christ is the only way to know God.

While Christianity shares similarities with other religions, it is also unique. Jared Wilson says that this uniqueness is what makes Christianity compelling. What is the most unique aspect of the Christian faith?

If you lay Christianity out with every other religion and every other philosophy of the world, only in Christianity do you find this message of grace.”

“The idea that God would forgive our sins and save us as a pure gift, not based on anything we’ve done, not on our performance, not on our works, not even on our good intentions, but purely as an act of grace.”

Other religions offer salvation through your own holy actions, good intentions, and personal piety. Christianity offers salvation because of Christ’s holiness and sacrifice and offer of salvation.

“You don’t find that in any other religion. To me, that’s what makes Christianity the most compelling, is just how unique it is.”

Unfortunately, this message of grace is rejected by much of our world today, But why? Why would someone reject the free gift of grace?

“Grace makes so little of us; the message of grace basically presumes that we can’t measure up. So of course other religions would seem appealing to people who want to be made much of, who want some of that glory for themselves.”

In order to accept the free gift of grace, we have to come to terms with the fact that we can’t save ourselves. Our flesh desires to be self-sufficient, this causes us to struggle to be able to give up our desire to save ourselves.
