We’ve all heard the phrase, God is love. But what does that really mean? And what impact does it have on our lives?
According to Dr. Timothy Jennings, we were created to abide by the law of love. When we don’t the natural consequence is death.
“God is love and when He created His universe He built it to operate in harmony with Himself. The principle of love is the principle of giving. This is a protocol upon which all life is constructed.”
To illustrate this principle of loving and giving, Jennings uses our relationship to plants and animals.
“With every breath you take you give away carbon dioxide to the plants and the plants give oxygen back to you; a never ending circle of giving upon which life is actually built to operate.”
While these laws are the way God intended us to live our lives, we aren’t forced to live in alignment to them.
“You are free to transgress the law, you can tape a plastic bag over your head and selfishly hoard your carbon dioxide to yourself, but the wages of that is death.”
“That’s why selfishness is so reprehensible to God because selfishness would be like a person tying a plastic bag over their head and saying, ‘I’m hoarding my carbon dioxide to myself.’ It’s a horrible thing to see because it results only in the death and destruction of those who are selfish.”
Being selfish is unhealthy because it breaks the cycle of giving and loving upon which the universe was established. If we want to live and thrive on earth, we have to play by God’s rules.
Selfishness naturally leads to death. Love naturally leads to life.
