We are all broken, but do you find it hard to humble yourself and admit it?

Pastor Kyle Idleman explains how embracing our brokenness can lead to spiritual blessings and freedom.

Jesus greatly values brokenness. The story of the woman who anointed the feet of Jesus with oil is a perfect example of this.

The woman who was a known prostitute and sinner embraces her brokenness, humbles herself before the Lord, and washes the feet of Jesus. Even though she is an outcast Jesus affirms and encourages her attitude of brokenness and forgives her sins.

Most Christians would say that they want the same blessing but few are willing to humble themselves.

“We just don’t want to have to be broken, we don’t want to have to experience that kind of vulnerability, but it doesn’t work that way.”

In order to receive the blessing from God we have to be humble.

“That kind of blessing requires brokenness, and until we’re willing to humble ourselves in that way and to be vulnerable in that way, we miss out on that blessing experienced by her.”

The most important thing to realize is that everyone is already broken.

“It’s not a matter of making ourselves broken to experience the blessing; we’re already broken. What is required for blessing is the brokenness, where we acknowledge it and we recognize it and we create space for God’s blessing in our lives.”

Take a moment to realize that you are broken and that is okay.

Ask God to come to your aid despite your brokenness. Ask Him to help you realize how much you need Him and how to rest in Him.
