What does it mean to live like you’re already at the table? It means you’re not worried about your own appearance because you’re busy adoring Jesus.

Heather Holleman, author of  , struggled to believe she was beautiful and was constantly comparing herself to others. She decided to dig into Scripture to see what God said about her – and the results were powerful.

“Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.” Psalm 34:5

Heather studied that verse and her perspective changed. She suddenly felt beautiful.

“I was radiating Jesus through my face. I don’t need to worry about my appearance anymore; I’m seated gazing at Him and I’m going to radiate Him to everyone I see.”

When we’re so busy striving for physical perfection that we ignore the people and needs around us, we go from beautiful to narcissistic and self-absorbed.

Instead of being insecure today, scan the room for someone who needs a word of encouragement. That takes you from a worldly perspective to a kingdom perspective. It’s a long journey but God can bring that peace and contentment if we recognize that we are beautiful because He made us. There is no physical standard to aspire to, there is no perfect weight or skin tone. We can rest, and thank God for the way He’s created us.

Heather sees things differently now.

“I really see that God gave me my face for a reason. And I still wear makeup, but it’s more artful and something I enjoy, not because I feel ugly or bad about myself.”

If you’re someone who struggles with your appearance, remind yourself of Heather’s words and God’s promise to make us beautiful.

“I’m gazing at Jesus every day. I know He made my face and my body, and I can just go love the world.”
