Highlight: Can I lose my salvation?
Is my salvation in jeopardy?
It’s a question many people ask at some point during their faith journey. Bible scholar Ron Rhodes explains why all Christ-followers who have truly accepted Jesus as their savior have the God-given right to be confident of their salvation.
“By looking at what the Bible says, it’s my understanding that we are secure in our salvation. I think we just need to saturate our minds on those verses which support that idea.”
Ron cites three passages that indicate our salvation is secure.
“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.” Ephesians 1:13
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30
These passages indicate that our salvation is permanently sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption.
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28
Our salvation as well as our earthly life is safe in God’s hands. Why then is it sometimes so hard to feel secure in our salvation?
“One of Satan’s favorite tools is to say to us, Look at how you’re living, you can’t possibly be a Christian.”
Satan wants us to believe that our sinful nature defines us.
“That’s one of his favorite things to get Christians to believe, he’ll try to convince you and whisper to your conscience: you are so unworthy, you’re just a pretend Christian, you’re not a real Christian. The Heavenly Father doesn’t love you because look at the way that you continue to live day in and day out.”
Ron says that Satan wants to try to make us feel like a worm before God because it renders us unable to live as God intended.
“He loves for people to doubt their salvation, especially people who have a sensitive conscience. But the New Testament teaches that once you’re in God’s family, you’re secure.”
God will discipline us when we sin, but He will never kick us out of his family if we repent and turn from our wicked ways.
“He will discipline us if we get into sin, but even then he does that only because he loves us. He cares about us too much to let us get away with bad stuff. So we just need to just drill those verses into our minds, that we’re in the family of God.”
