Highlight: Has Jesus given us something better than himself?

Do you ever find yourself wishing you lived during the time of Jesus, so you could sit at his feet and hear Him teach? You aren’t alone. Many others have thought the same way. According to Liz Curtis Higgs, Jesus has given something better to us.

“What I want to say to our friends who are tempted to go that direction, we actually live in a better time now, because those people did not have what we have.”

Liz explains that most people during that time were illiterate, whereas in modern times, most people are able to read. Even more importantly, we have the Bible.

“We have the entire counsel of God printed in books that you can get for five bucks, or even for free. The whole counsel of God.”

If that’s not enough, we have the Holy Spirit, living inside of us.

“We each have the gift of the Holy Spirit, those of us who know Him, who will interpret for us, who will help us look at words on a page that suddenly leap up into our eyes and into our hearts and they make sense when they didn’t make sense before.”

In these moments it is not the Bible that has changed, but our ability to see has been altered forever.

“The Bible that somehow didn’t make sense to us when we were 20, suddenly does make sense now that we are 30 or 40 or 50. We are in the presence of Christ when we open His Word and allow the Holy Spirit to enlighten the Word for us.”

We are set up for success, but will we claim it?

“We have everything, God has made it all possible for us.”
