Social media is a tool that can be used for good or for evil. Have you ever thought about how you use it?

The Millennials Evangelical Chris Martin outlines 3 of Thom Rainer’s 10 commandments of social media.

1. You shall remember you are an ambassador for Christ.

“It is important to remember that we are ambassadors for Christ. The Church is the embassy of the kingdom of God. We are ambassadors here proclaiming the message of our King.”

It’s important to proclaim the Gospel message, but how we do it is just as important.

“We need to remember that while we are proclaiming the message of our King, it’s important that we not mix up messages our King would definitely not want us to say amidst the message that he does want us to communicate.”

2. You shall not be a stumbling block to unbelievers.

“A lot of what Christians post on social media isn’t a help to unbelievers. It’s a stumbling block, you are literally building an obstacle for someone to come to faith in Christ.”

It is good to stand up against injustices like abortion. However, we must conduct ourselves with love and grace.

“Those are things to rightly stand with conviction against, but they’re not things that we have a license to hate people for. Sometimes our conviction that something like abortion is a horrible thing, unnecessarily and unintentionally overflows into this hatred of all people who would ever associate themselves with such an act.

3. You shall remember your words are permanent.

“It’s safe to believe that everything you do online or video you record is permanent, and it’s not going to go away. Someone could refer to a comment you made two years ago, next week and you could say, Well I don’t believe that now. While that may be true, it’s still there and that person can still bring it up.”
