Highlight: How to become a highly productive person

President John F. Kennedy supposedly ate his lunch in bed and then settled in for a nap every day. Sounds like a luxury and an interesting habit! Actually, it is a habit of highly productive people.

Sleep is necessary to be productive at work and most of us don’t get enough of it. So if you want to boost your productivity, check your sleep habits. 70% of us need more than we are getting.

Here are a few more tips from people who are highly productive:

Stop saying, “Yes” to busy tasks that bring low results.

Instead spend your time and energy on those tasks that bring results. Warren Buffet once said,

“The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say “no” to almost everything.”

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

Stop multitasking.

Researchers tell us that multitasking is an interruptive behavior that causes us to lose time and focus. In fact, switching from task to task temporarily drops your IQ an average of 10 points. Eliminate all distractions.

Turn off your phone, email alerts or even your wi-fi if you are too tempted! Focus on one task at a time. Hey, we all want to work smarter, not harder.

Related to multitasking is scheduling email.

Most of us regularly check our email multiple times during the day. We lose time and productivity doing this. Try scheduling a few times a day to check email. See how much more you will accomplish without the constant interruption.

Start your day with prayer.

This is the day the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad in it. Respond to God’s love by expressing your love for him, committing to being as productive as possible every day.

Live in one-day segments of faithful obedience, doing the best you can each new day to do whatever you sense God calling you to do during that time. Fifteen minutes of devotion to start your day will renew your mind.

Be led by the Spirit, pray and listen to how God may be prompting you that day.

Keep your energy level up with the joy of the Lord.

Rejoice in the deep love God has for you. He orders your steps, goes before you, and promises joy despite circumstances. His love will strengthen you. And you have significance and a purpose.

So stay close to the Lord. Listen to the Holy Spirit and allow God to work His results through you.
