Highlight: God's love in nature

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

We often say that we can see God everywhere, all of creation shouts out to us about Him. But what does that really mean?

“God, who is love, is the builder of space, time, energy, matter, lives, relationships. His laws and how He designed reality to run is always an expression of His own nature.”

Dr. Timothy Jennings shares how we can see the cycle of God’s love in nature.

“When God created, He constructed reality to operate in harmony with His own nature and the principle of love is the principle of giving.”

God is love and the essence of love is giving. The most loving thing God has done is to give His Son’s life up to save us from eternity apart from Him.

“Love is not self-seeking, for God so loved the world He gave.”

When we examine nature, we see this concept of love shown through giving and receiving. Dr. Jennings outlines one specific example of this giving and receiving between plants and humans.

“With every breath you take you give away carbon dioxide to the plants, and the plants give back oxygen to you. It’s a never ending circle of giving upon which life is actually constructed to operate.”

Dr. Jennings explains that we are free to transgress this law of giving and receiving, this law of love, but if we do it only leads to death.

“You can take a plastic bag and tie it over your head and selfishly hoard your carbon dioxide to yourself, but the wages of that is death.”

If we hoarded our carbon-dioxide to ourselves we would literally die. Similarly sin is incompatible with love because sin is a transgression against the very nature of God. Sin severs the circle of love that begins and ends with God.

“We are dead in trespasses and sins. We’re in a terminal condition. However, through Christ, God is working to restore us back into harmony with himself so we can have life eternal.”
