“God is our refuge and strength. He is abundantly available for help in tight places.”

Sometimes, when we feel out of options with our back is against the wall, we consider damaging alternatives. Steve Farrar has a word for you.

“I’ve been there.”

Steve struggled with psychological pain in his early thirties. He understood what it meant to hurt so deeply that he wanted to die.

“I’d never hurt that bad in my life.”

The pain was so great Steve longed for a way out. It was then that he remembered the words of the apostle Paul.

“We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die.” 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

Steve realized that Paul had felt the same way. In the task of ministry, he felt burdened beyond his strength so that he despaired even of life itself. We need to remember that we’re not the only ones who have ever faced darkness. We can bring each other strength and support in times of spiritual warfare.

The enemy has a special hatred for leaders. When the kingdom of God is bringing life and healing to people, Satan works hard to turn things back. Steve describes that six men in his part of Texas have taken their life in the past five years. Each of them were strong, influential men, leaders in the body of Christ, but each of them made a devastating choice when faced with life’s trials.

“When you’re in the wilderness, you get into a tight place.”

Fortunately we serve a God of tight places. He’s given us a tool to fight with – His Word.

“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” Psalm 46:1

“Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” Psalm 50:15

Steve reminds us of the presence of God and the importance of truth.

“You are not by yourself. You will see Him. In those moments we have to listen to truth rather than the deception. Don’t take this into your hands. God knows where you are. And He can rescue. And He will rescue, if you’ll call on Him.”

Steve Farrar’s mission has been to equip men to become spiritual leaders of their families and churches. His book is  .
