Are healthy foods a mirage?

According to health expert Lisa Morrone, we aren’t always eating as healthy as we might think we are. Foods such as yogurt or wheat bread which are thought of as healthy foods can actually be full of sugar and other unhealthy additives.

“Sometimes wheat bread just has some wheat flour in it, but if it doesn’t say 100% whole wheat then we’ve been misled.”

Even then, your 100% whole wheat bread can still be unhealthy.

“I brought home some 100% whole wheat bread and found out that it has high fructose corn syrup and added sugar in it.”

It’s important to check the nutrition facts on all of the foods we get, even those that appear, on the surface, to be healthy.

Are cereal and granola bars good for us?

Even some of the most healthy granola bars and cereal with organic ingredients have tons of added sugar for flavor. Verify that what your putting in your kid’s lunch box, or taking to work yourself is actually more healthy than a candy bar.

“I grab these Fiber One bars off the shelf and I thought, this is fabulous, I’m always trying to get more fiber in my kids and I brought them home, sat down and looked at the label and there was a high level of high fructose corn syrup and honey in it. I realized that was more than I bargained for.”

Looks can be deceiving, especially when it comes to food. With so many brands vying for your consumption of their products, take a few extra minutes to discover the truth behind the food you eat on a daily basis.
