Highlight: Smashing fear in the mouth

What’s your greatest fear? In God you have everything you need to face and conquer your fear. Chuck Tate explains how God has equipped us to live free of fear.

“A lot of fears in our lives are irrational. There are so many things that I used to be afraid of but because I smashed fear in the mouth, I’m not afraid.”

“I’m not afraid to ride a roller coaster model, I’m not afraid to dive off of the high dive.”

Fear holds us back from completing the God-ordained tasks before us. But God is with us in facing and conquering those fears.

Chuck shares a story of how he helped his sister smash her fear of roller coasters.

“At the time it was the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster and we stood in line and she was going to ride it. She was really brave in line but once it came time to get in, She changed her mind.”

Chuck convinced his sister that there was a button to stop the roller coaster at the top. Persuaded, she boarded.

“Her head was between her knees and she was gripped on those handlebars and finally I said, ‘Shari, do you want me to push the button?’”

Faced with the terror of the approaching drop she said yes. That is when Chuck broke the news to her that there was no button after all.

“The reason I tell this story is because she loves roller coasters to this day. So my response to her is you’re welcome.”

Just like Chuck’s sister was not alone in facing, and conquering her roller coaster fear, we are not alone when it comes to facing our fears.

“Once we have a revelation, or understanding, of how big our God is then He will help us to smash fear in the face.”

God comes alongside of each of us, equipping us to step into fear with confidence.

“He is with us. He is for us, he is above and below us, beside us, all around us wherever we go He is. We don’t have to be afraid. The enemy did a good job of crippling the Israelites. But David knew who His God is. If we will trust, He will give us the strength we need to smash fear in the mouth.”
