“We have, as a church, talked about spiritual warfare and emotional warfare – the battlefield of the mind. But I think we’re forgetting physical warfare.”

Laura Harris Smith says when we think about healthy living, we need to have an approach that integrates spirit, mind, and body. Our spiritual life is connected to our physical health.

“We were made in His image. And He is a trinity – He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So if we’re made in His image we have three parts as well, and we cannot segregate them. If we want to be whole, we have to deal with our body, and our mind, and our spirit.”

In her book , she lays out a plan to rid our lives and bodies of toxins and restore us to full health so we can walk with Christ unhindered.

Laura’s initial vision was a plan that would flush chemicals and toxins from the lives of her readers. But an unexpected result has come:

“I had no idea that people were going to lose so much weight, because this is not a weight loss book.”

Laura received an email immediately after the book’s release that started the trend. It came from a woman in South Africa.

“She said, ‘The first four days were a real kicker. But I have lost five pounds!’”

Laura was surprised at first. But she explains why this makes sense.

“Toxins are stored in fat. A lot of times they’ll just nestle in and make home in some fat cells.”

As you’re targeting toxins by eating food that cleans out your system, you’re “invading” the places of fat.

“The fat is being blasted, all because you’re eating the right things, at the right time of day, and your metabolism is kick-starting. People are shedding toxins. What’s happening on the outside is a really good picture of what’s going on on the inside.”

The 30-Day Faith Detox includes large amounts of water and natural, organic, non-processed foods that target your different physical systems. As we take care of these systems, we’re able to live the life God has for us without being hindered by health problems.

Why is this important? There is a spiritual component to living a healthy life, and as Laura concludes, it has to do with warfare.

“We’re forgetting that the enemy would like to take us out and have us not live long and strong but have our lives cut short, so that we cannot continue to serve the Lord.”
