Christian businessmen upholding faith-based principles used to be considered a good thing. The times have changed—as brothers David and Jason Benham discovered when their real estate TV show was canceled before it started in the face of an activist campaign. The Benham brothers have written about their life—from professional baseball to business to standing for their faith—in the book  . Here’s where the conversation takes us.

We hear the story of how David and Jason found their way from the world of sports to entrepreneurship – beginning a real estate company. They say that the Bible has a great deal to say about business, and explain how they’ve deployed those principles in the marketplace. Even beyond that, David says that the Bible is the framework for everything that he and his brother do.

The brothers share about their father, saying that his courage is the model for them when it comes to displaying love – even in the midst of disagreement. Love is vital, and while they believe that God loves each and every one of us – he’s not a fan of all ideas.

Jason and David have also learned a great deal from the game of baseball, and they believe those lessons can help others as well. They talk about the need to get our heads in the game, and to get off the stands and onto the playing field.

In view of the experience that the brothers faced with their potential television deal, they tackle the concept of the sacred / secular divide. Christianity is a comprehensive worldview that, in their view, has the answers to everything in life. So the idea of a dividing line between our spiritual lives and the rest of what we do isn’t something that Jason and David believe should exist.
