Valentine’s Day seems to remind many single mothers that they are missing ‘something’. I have often had to wade through the emotions of feeling unloved and uncared for. However, the Word disagrees with those emotions; we are made to be celebrated. Zephaniah 3:17 tells us that the Lord rejoices, leaps and spins with abandonment, over us. He is the God who spreads out His banner of love over us for all to see (Song of Solomon 2:4).

Jesus gives single mothers the keys to move out of denial, hopelessness, and despair and Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to discover how to open the doors to knowing LOVE.

ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR DESIRE

Don’t be ashamed or afraid to admit that you long to be loved unconditionally. God put those desires in each one of us and they are not bad, nor can we repent our way out of them.  The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed (Psalm 34:18)

TAKE IT TO JESUS

He placed longing in us to lead us to Him. Our response is often to: deny, run, fill the ach with something of the world or become embittered. God gave us these longings to lead us to HIM. And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

GIVE AND IT WILL BE GIVEN UNTO YOU

Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return (Luke 6:38)

Early I determined that I would not sit around in my pool of pity but I would let others know they are loved, honored, seen and celebrated.  We reap what we sow!

KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN

Oftentimes we want to dictate to Jesus how we want to be loved, but we are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ and he knows the numbers of hairs on our head (Psalm 139) how much more does He know how to meet us in our hour of desperation?

Let Him draw near; use the keys that He has given you to open your heart to LOVE.
