Today’s culture is often focused on appearance and a quest to fit in, but – as Christians – God is calling us to go against the grain at times.

Jo welcomes author Megan Clinton to the show, and we unpack her latest book She inspires with practical ways to be who God has created us to be, despite what the world around us is doing. We learn God-honoring ways to rebel against modern culture – on this latest Connecting Faith. Here’s where the conversation takes us.

So what does it really mean to be a rebel? We look to the life of Jesus himself, and rediscover how he was viewed by his society. Is there a healthy version of rebellion that we ought to be pursuing at certain points?

We dig deeper on how this topic particularly intersects with the expectations our society places on young women. Megan notes that there are so many decisions we make as young people that have the potential to impact the rest of our lives.

Many young women across the country are so deeply desiring to be accepted. 1 in 5 girls report that they are lonely. As a result, there can be a willingness to do whatever it takes to gain acceptance. And society stands ready to tell young women how they can be valued, yet often society’s message says something completely opposite than what God has to say about value and worth.

Megan draws a parallel between damaging messages about self worth & acceptance and the popular beverage KoolAid. She issues a call to refrain. Instead, she invites girls to realize that they are deeply loved by God. He never gives up on us, no matter what mistakes we’ve made or what we’ve done.
