Do you struggle with anxiety or fear in your every day life? Rebekah Lyons joins Ed Stetzer to discuss how God helped her overcome her anxiety disorder in a miraculous way.

Rebekah and her family moved to New York City in 2010 and six months after they moved, Rebekah developed a panic disorder.

Her life was characterized by panic attack after panic attack. The lack of personal space due to living conditions in New York City compounded the problem.

One night, Rebekah woke up in the middle of a panic attack, gripping her husband’s arm and she cried out to the Lord.

“Rescue me, deliver me, I cannot do this without you.”

The next moment she was calm.

“I walked out of my apartment the next morning and have been different ever since.”

God miraculously healed Rebekah’s panic disorder. However, not everyone who struggles with anxiety will be miraculously healed, but that doesn’t mean God has abandoned them.

After her experiences, Rebekah became interested in learning more about anxiety disorders and she stumbled across the works of renowned neurologist and Holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl.

In his book, Man’s Search For Meaning, Frankl said that

the root of anxiety is unfulfilled responsibility.”

This struck a chord in Rebekah’s heart because while she was suffering from her anxiety disorder, she was also wrestling with the fear of purposelessness in her life.

“The sense that there’s something I’m supposed to be doing but I’m not doing it, or I’m not aware of what it is, or I haven’t awakened to it yet.”

Rebekah discovered that she was struggling with anxiety regarding her purpose and identity.

“There was this sense of who is Rebekah before the kids, before Gabe, you know the one who marched off to college with dreams and visions and 20 years later is kind of lost.”

She admits that she did not have the faith to be healed, but when she called out to God to rescue her, He did.

Many Christians suffer from anxiety rooted in fear. Are you one of them? If so, ask God to help you understand the origin of your fear and ask him to rescue you and trust that He will. God will work in your life to help you begin to fear less.
