When financial crisis comes, we learn that God is our Rock. Listen as Susie talks with Caryn Rivadeneira about how to lean on God for our daily bread in difficult seasons.

“It stared out slow, as the economy took a turn.. at the same time [my husband] started wondering ‘Is this really what I want to be doing anyway?’ Also during that time, I had two kids that were not covered under maternity insurance. Initially we thought ‘We’ll be able to pay this down.’ As our income started coming down and the bills started piling up, we started pulling money out of savings accounts and retirement accounts.” When Caryn finally realized their family had no more money, she describes it as “terrifying.”

Caryn reveals her struggle and what she learned about God. “We have a God Who cares.”

When her family was experiencing doubt and spiritual warfare, Caryn shares a simple prayer she turned to. “Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” We can’t always recognize difficult times as blessings and mercy from God, but that doesn’t negate the truth that God is our Father and seeks our good. Caryn says, we need to constantly remember our dependence on Him. “When we’re not desperate, we’re not looking.”

Caryn’s book is called Broke: What Financial Desperation Revealed About God’s Abundance.
