Facing life head-on

In the midst of life’s stressors, angst, and heartbreak, it can be difficult for a Christian to remember Philippians 4:6-8:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

When life gets tough — when the bill you can’t pay is due, when you go through a period of loneliness, or when a loved one dies — it’s easy to feel powerless. Author Kevin Harney says, though, that Christians need to be reminded of the strength, encouragement, and hope provided by the Holy Spirit. He’s written the book  , and he joined Dr. Bill Maier Live! to talk about how every Christian can develop a sense of spiritual empowerment. Harney says,

“There’s hope in Jesus, because he fills us with his power, he walks in a relationship with us. And when we fall and when we stumble and when we do the very things we hate to do, his grace is sufficient…but he still calls us to walk in his power, to walk in his strength, to repent.”
