On this edition of Live the Promise Susie is joined by Bible scholar Ron Rhodes to tackle your questions about revelation, curses and more!
Here are some of the questions Ron tackles:
• Is there a difference between the heart and the soul?
• Why is Jacob referred to as both Jacob and Israel, even after his name was changed by the LORD?
• Are there such things as generational curses since Jesus broke the curse of sin on the cross?
“What your parents do have a great effect on how you will live. We read in 1 Kings 15:3 about Jeroboam, who walked in all the sins his father did before him.” Ron also points to Abraham and Isaac, Isaac and Jacob, and Ahaziah and his mother. “We tend to pick up the behavior of our parents. When you get to the New Testament, I don’t think we see the emphasis on generational curses.”
• Can the elect be deceived?
• How can we handle disagreements regarding the Tribulation?
“When the plain sense makes good sense, seek no other sense lest you end up in nonsense. Let our arguments be tempered by the larger agreements we share.”
• How can we engage Mormons and those of other faiths with the gospel?
Ron has a few strong words. “Focus primarily on Jesus. The Bible is a Jesus book from beginning to end. Focus on the true identity of Jesus and what He did at the cross, and pour all kinds of grace into the mix.” Ron shares a process for interacting with a Mormon who shows up at your door.
1. Listen. Hear them out as a show of respect.
2. Repeat it back to them to clarify what they’re saying.
3. Use the question approach. Ron points out that Jesus used that frequently in His ministry.
4. Share your own testimony with them.
• What does spiritual warfare look like?
Ron points us to the book of Daniel for clues. What would we see if the veil was lifted and we saw the spiritual realm?
