Women in every culture struggle with feeling beautiful. Elisa Morgan shares how to break free from lies and focus instead on how God sees you.

We are our own worst critics and judges and we do a fantastic job of self-rejection.

“I may look fine on the outside, but there’s a world of ugly on the inside.”

Sometimes we believe the lie that something inside of us is ugly and unacceptable to God. The next lie we believe is just as destructive.

“We think we’re the only ones. We think we’re the only messed up, selfish ones.”

Satan wants us to believe that we are the worst sinner to ever set foot on earth. However, God has a different truth that we must embrace.

“Because God sees us through Jesus, He sees us as beloved, He sees us as pure, He sees us as righteous, and He longs for us to see ourselves the same way.”

Elisa admits that she knew Jesus loved her, but what she didn’t know was that she was pushing away Jesus’s love instead of embracing it.

Fifteen years after her mother’s death, Elisa realized that her mother had told her brother and sister that she loved them, but she hadn’t told Elisa. Suddenly, it dawned on her why.

“My mom didn’t tell me, on her death bed, that she loved me, because I wouldn’t let her.”

Elisa realized that she had spent much of her adult life putting up boundaries to separate herself from her mother’s alcoholism. However, she was also putting up barriers that hindered the love in their relationship.

“I wouldn’t be vulnerable… and I began to realize that maybe I push God’s love away too.”

Elisa realized she wasn’t allowing God to enter her life and take control. She wasn’t receiving God’s love. She shares her healing journey in the book  and says that while God may seem dangerous, He’s not unloving.

“Maybe He doesn’t seem safe at times, and of course God isn’t, He’s terribly dangerous, but in the best way possible. He’s so dangerous because He took our sin on Himself and therefore we can risk drawing close.”

Are you resisting the love of God? Ask Him to help you tear down the barriers that prevent you from receiving the free gift of love offered to you through Jesus Christ.
