True purpose comes in understanding that it’s not all about you. – Sheriff Matt Bostrom

The guys talk about consequences, moments of mental clarity, and the law. Of course, they cover a step, and tonight it’s Step 10: Continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admit it.

Sheriff, Matt Bostrom, and his wife, Cheryl, join the program to discuss the highs and lows of being a family in law reinforcement. Sheriff Bostrom shares how you can tell if your child is slipping into negative behavior and sheds light on the troubling drug problem taking hold of young people and how you can prevent it by just guarding your medicine cabinet. He also highlights the importance of personal responsibility and how his own personal faith influences his profession.

As Ramsey County Sheriff, Matt leads Minnesota’s first law enforcement agency and second largest sheriff’s office, which protects over 500,000 residents in a metropolitan area of 3.2 million people. Matt commands the 400-plus member department and administers a nearly $50 million annual budget. He is responsible for a 500-bed jail, 23 recreational lakes and 18 miles of the Mississippi River, five courthouse locations, and contract services to seven communities. Matt directs the coordination of joint investigations, regional partnerships, and community policing services.

Matt completed his formal education at the University of Northwestern (Bachelor of Science), University of Saint Thomas (Master of Arts), and Hamline University, where he earned his Doctorate in Public Administration. He is an FBI National Academy Graduate, Certified State of Minnesota Emergency Manager, and a Licensed Teacher. He published “The Influence of Education on Police Officer Work Habits” and co-authored the United States Department of Justice study “Character-Based Police Officer Selection.”
