We all face battles in our lifetime and they come in many forms. Do you know the God Who comes alongside you and fights for you? Listen to Susie’s powerful discussion with Bo Stern. Her husband has been battling ALS for three years, and she shares what they’ve learned about the God who is ruthless on our behalf, from her book, .

How does Bo strengthen herself in the LORD? In the midst of the trials of life, Bo has spent time drilling down into the character of God. When we encounter difficulties and suffering, our tendency is to blame God. But Bo says, if we fall back on “God is hurting me, God is punishing me,” we’re talking about the wrong deity.

She unpacks several facets of the God Who is holding her as she watches her husband’s health decline.

The God Who fights for us.
God is ruthless toward our enemies. In Bo’s life, ALS is her enemy – the thing Satan is trying to use to “steal, kill, and destroy” in their family. God is using the sword of His Word to guard them from discouragement and bitterness, as He does for everyone who is called by His Name.

The God Who is our Father.
He intervenes not by protecting us from suffering, but by guiding us through His Word and His people to utilize suffering in a way that brings us and others closer to Him.

The God Who goes before you.
God declares the end from the beginning, and as Bo says, “He’s been to every moment we’ll ever face” and will give us the grace and strength we need to stand in that moment.

The God Who always wins.
When God shows up, God wins. It’s not even a close match.

The God Who is strong.
Our strength ebbs and flows with age, health, and climate. But God stands strong, mighty to save, and unaffected by lesser forces.

The God Who listens.
God hears even our whispered prayers.

Bo doesn’t know how long her husband will live, but she is confident in the God who is close, strong, perfect, and loving. Lean on God and trust in His plan and strength.
