What can we learn from the battle of Jericho? Listen to Susie’s conversation with pastor Dudley Rutherford about his book,  . They explore how God worked through and for His people. Dudley has broken the battle of Jericho into seven sections – one for each day and each trek around the wall. He describes seven steps to understanding and stepping into victory.

Step 1: Focus on the power of the Lord, not on the size of your problem. The Israelites saw the walls, which archaeologists believe were roughly 26 feet tall, and rather than focusing on the height and thickness, they marched in obedience, knowing God would be faithful to give them victory.

Step 2: Trust in God’s plan even when it doesn’t make sense. “I think most of what God asks us doesn’t make sense. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, that doesn’t make sense… when victory comes, who gets the credit? God gets the credit for it.”

Step 3: See the supernatural in all situations.

Step 4: Surround yourself with other believers who are like-minded. “If I am walking with other believers… we can accomplish anything with the Lord’s help. When you’re in the middle of a battle, find people who are also in that battle that have Christian morals and march with them. That’s why I tell people, you don’t want to miss church – this is where you’re strengthened. [God] wanted them marching in unison.”

Step 5: Be consistent. Don’t grow weary of doing good, because it will yield the fruit of righteousness.

Step 6: Follow God’s instructions every step of the way. “In that obedience is where the blessing of God comes.”

Step 7:  Get ready for a season of joy. When the victory comes, we’ll want to celebrate!
