When we’re seeking God’s will, we’re seeking a place to experience His power. On this edition of Live the Promise Susie welcomes back pastor Ed Underwood to talk about Ed’s new novel – an allegory about walking with God.

In Ed’s book, The Trail, he explores what it means to discern God’s will. He and Susie touch on several points of the journey:

Trust
You need to trust His guidance and His heart toward you.

Relationship
Be all in for Jesus. “It all begins with relationship. In John 15, Jesus says, ‘My father and I will disclose our innermost thoughts to you.’ The psalm says God’s loyal followers receive His guidance. Am I the type of follower who will recognize God’s guidance?”

Intimacy
Walk closely, not just with God, but with God’s people. As we walk with believers who are more mature than we are, they can speak into our lives with authority and credibility.

Timing
Watch how certain events fall into place in relation to your prayers and fasting; in Ed’s words, “God’s signature on events is timing.” Sometimes the absence of an event can be a sign as well; focus on prayer and reading the Word and watch God bring forth events.

Protection
Psalm 91 tells us that God is our hiding place; we see that when He keeps us from harm and otherwise blocks our way. It may not seem like protection at the time, but God may show us eventually what He kept us from.

Encouragement
Go to God’s Word for comfort and encouragement.

Community
Stay connected to a biblically-based church.

Grace
Embrace the sense and truth that God is for you no matter how often you sin and stumble in faith; His unmerited favor will guide you every step of the way.

Ed says, it’s a journey, but one that is worth taking.

“What’s so tragic about living other than by faith is that you don’t know the blessings of living by faith until you’re on the other side of it. If you will soften your heart, He’s going to blow your mind with spectacular ways that He will show up. That has more to do with expectations than some type of formula.”
