Mere Christianity is one of the most-loved Christian books of the 20th century. But how did it come about? Listen to Susie’s discussion with guest Paul McCusker of Focus on the Family. We look at the life and legacy of C.S. Lewis and unpack the story behind his well-known book. It came from a series of radio lectures that Lewis gave during World War II.

Lewis, or Jack as his friends called him, was actively engaged in culture. Paul points out that Lewis didn’t just “throw out platitudes” when speaking about life and faith. He genuinely cared that his hearers would consider the Christian faith, and raised hard issues “in order to reframe them.” This approach cost Lewis, as many academics in his social circles and at Oxford viewed him as foolish for sharing his faith so openly.  Lewis kept at it, because the heart of his message was “Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” C.S. Lewis was a powerful example of examining the Christian faith and inviting others to do the same.
