God gives us wisdom and insight so we can share it with believers around us. On this edition of Live the Promise, we hear Susie’s discussion with author and speaker Mimi Wilson. She’s a woman who has ministered to dozens of young women throughout her life, and she shares what it means to have, and to be, a mentor.

Mimi grew up as the daughter of missionaries who prayed fervently over her. She had a “tremendous heritage” behind her but realized she needed to make her faith and future her own. Mimi decided to start visiting nursing homes and asking every elderly person the same question – if you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently? Using this knowledge she started pouring into younger women around her, and a love for mentorship developed.

Listen as Susie, Mimi, and Barbi Odom unpack several deeper-life topics around mentorship:

  • Mimi’s first mentor, and how she took Mimi under her wing
  • The definition of a mentor
  • What happened when Barbi pursued Mimi and asked for a mentoring relationship
  • How to deal with feelings of doubt or inadequacy – as Barbi points out, don’t feel the need to answer every question your mentee has. Ultimately, your job is to walk with them and point them to the Answerer Himself.
  • What it means to speak the truth in love
  • Steps to seek out a spiritual father or mother

Mimi and Barbi encourage every Christian to seek out someone further along in their faith, but it doesn’t stop there. Be intentional about partnering with someone who’s younger in the faith as well, and pass on what God’s been teaching you.
