Some days, life is frustrating. We butt heads with our children and everyone seems to be angry all the time. How do we deal with this? How do we promote good values in our children when everyone is angry? Or can we change emotional feel of the household?

On today’s show, Dr. Bill talks to Courtney Defeo, a former marketer with Chick-Fil-A and the author of In This House, We Will Giggle. They discuss her work at Chick-Fil-A and their ethics as a company, including their utilization of servant leadership and how that prepared Defeo for her new life as a mother when she left her job. She now blogs about parenting on her website Lil’ Light O’ Mine, and has gained some fame from her ABC Scripture Cards, which have been featured on The View.

Defeo discusses how to make life in the home a little more light and fun, especially when there are disagreements between parents and children. She talks about some practical ways of making children thankful for everything that they have. She also talks about creating joyfulness, observing the world around and understanding how blessed they are in what they have. Also discussed is how to promote patience and perseverance among your children as well.

Bill talks about why family meals are important to the development of children. When families eat together regularly have children who are more well-adjusted in almost every way possible. As well, Bill talks about a new study from the University of Minnesota that found that children are more likely to be healthy and avoid obesity when family dinners are generally positive. On the other hand, when the dinner atmosphere was negative, there was an increase in obesity. There was also a correlation between health of the children and having both parents present for the meal.
