Dr. Rich Melheim believes it’s time to get back to worship for all generations and that the concept of Sunday School may be killing the church.

Dr. Melheim is a pastor, educator, author and founder of Faith Inkubators. His passion is to foster our faith every night at home, and on this latest edition of Connecting Faith, he talks Sunday School and his book . Here’s where our conversation takes us:

We look back to the time of the Israelites and examine the way parents instructed their children about God. Dr. Rich says it’s clear that a parent’s role is to teach your children about your faith, and it’s a job that you simply can’t outsource.

So where is Dr. Rich coming from with his views on Sunday school? What does he view as wrong with the modern practice of Christian education? Have we somehow outsourced the most important thing the Bible instructs us to do?

Dr. Melheim shares the call to build a home where every person feels loved, valued and heard. Imagine a family that seeks God’s wisdom, will and Word together. Dr. Rich says we can get there by practicing these Faith 5:

1. Sharing the highs and lows of the day
2. Reading a key verse of scripture from Sunday’s preaching & teaching
3. Talking about how the highs and lows relate to the Scripture and asking “What is God saying to my situation?”
4. Praying for one another’s highs and lows
5. Blessing one another before turning out the lights each day.
