Carolyn Weber had no need for God when she went to Oxford to pursue graduate studies. While there, she discovered God was pursuing her with a love she couldn’t resist. Listen to Carolyn’s candid story of her search for purpose and identity and the discovery of ultimate love and truth in the person of Jesus. Carolyn shares her experience of being Surprised By Oxford.

Carolyn grew up in London, Ontario in a nominal religious family with a better grasp on “astrology than theology.” She describes herself as being loosely agnostic, with no belief in a loving Father God. Eventually she transitioned to Oxford to study literature. As she studied, Carolyn discovered the “ache” every person lived with that she could not explain. At the same time God was bringing people across her path who shared the Christian faith in an intellectual and honest way, including a man she called TDH – “tall, dark, and handsome.” They began a friendship and he started sharing the gospel with her by raising questions.

Eventually, he asked her a question that caught her off guard – “Who is God to you?” Carolyn describes her shocked reaction as one of a hummingbird hitting glass. Through their conversations, Carolyn had a heart change and started reading the Bible for herself. In her words, “When you hear the truth, you can’t un-hear it. You can only remain apathetic for so long.” When Carolyn became involved in a local church, she was struck by their love and how “un-hypocritical” they were. Carolyn exhorts other Christians to keep serving and loving, because that will catch a watching world by surprise. She now shares her faith through books, speaking events, and her blog Pressing Save. She and her husband, TDH, are now raising four children together and serving the God Who surprised her all those years ago.
